Medsafe Conducts Modern Day Witch Hunt
on the natural products industry

That time has now arrived in New Zealand. Medicine is organizing itself into an undercover dictatorship.
Since the people of New Zealand were successful in halting Labour’s “Anti-Vitamin” Bill,

Medsafe have begun a modern day witch hunt of small businesses in the natural products industry in retaliation.“We had to hire an enforcement team because we never ever had one…….

This is part of a campaign to
educate people that the legislation isn’t perfect and that we agree there is need for new legislation in this

That “campaign to educate” looks more like a modern day witch hunt with:
· Website owners of sole traders or small businesses being contacted with threatening letters from
Medsafe. They have been told to remove sentences on their website and advertising material that
imply natural substances, natural products and supplements may have therapeutic benefits.
· Website owners have been told not to quote or provide links to research that relates to their products.
Small businesses with safe products that have been on the market for 27 years have been raided,
their natural products confiscated and their imports seized at the border on bogus pretexts like too much zinc!
These activities have lead to several businesses losing substantial income, some may even go to the
wall if Medsafe are allowed to continue.
You will hear supporters of the “Anti-Vitamin Bill” say the industry should have agreed to the ANZTPA
regulator as this just shows how bad the current legislation is. What they not telling you is that the regulations
under ANZTPA are even worse, making all naturally occurring substances illegal without a permit.
At least now we have the right of access to all naturally occurring substances – the current law just says
you are not allowed to communicate their therapeutic properties. The tactics being applied here are the
very same Australia saw at the inception of the TGA when it undertook a campaign of terror to force the
natural products industry to accept their draconian and very expensive rules.
It was the people of New Zealand who did not want this trans-Tasman Agency. It is now the small business
people of this country being terrorised and punished. Is the Government going to turn on we the
people next and punish us for not wanting our health care to be dictated by an offshore corporation run
by bureaucrats un-elected by the people it rules over?
